25年前に私がケニアに個人旅行した際の縁で、今回マサイ族の族長とその親族計3名来日しました。来日半年前の企画段階から親身になって対応し、2025年3月28日の来日から4月5日の帰国迄9日間べったりアテンドました。
滞在中の一番のイベントは在日ケニア大使から私邸に招待されたことです。羽織袴と着物の正装で訪問しました。当初緊張しましたが、大使の気さくな人柄から次第に会話が弾み和やかな雰囲気の中でケニアの伝統料理をご馳走になりました。大使の心遣いに厚くお礼申し上げます。又、もう一つの来日目的であるサイの繁殖技術の情報共有をする為、横浜の動物園の担当者と面談する事ができました。来日したマサイ族は普段マサイマラ国立自然保護区で近絶滅種サイの保護活動に従事しており、取り分けサイの日本での繁殖技術に関心を持っています。担当者とは予約無しにも関わらず快く応対して頂き深く感謝します。
二つの大役を終えた後、ご一行には寿司やすき焼きなどの和食を堪能して頂き、また自宅でお好み焼きを一緒に作ったりと日本の食文化を紹介しました。勿論定番の観光地にも案内したりと、毎日充実した日々を過ごされ再会を約束して帰国されました。後日かつてないほど日本が大好きになったとコメント頂きホスト役を果たせたと安堵しました。

当店でも人気のあるケニアコーヒーもご賞味頂きとても美味しいとコメントを頂きました。これからもケニアと日本の友好関係が深まりますように祈念しております。

I attended Maasai and his relatives from Kenya and the UK from March 28 for 9 days.
During their stay, we were invited to the private residence of the Kenyan ambassador of Japan. We visited in haori hakama and kimono formal wear. We were welcomed with the ambassador's friendly personality, the conversation gradually became lively and we were treated to traditional Kenyan cuisine in a harmonious atmosphere.
In addition, I arranged to meet with the person in charge of the zoo in Yokohama to share information on rhinoceros breeding technology. Because he is engaged in activities to protect the near-extinct species of rhinoceros.
I introduced them Japanese food culture by enjoying Japanese food such as sushi and sukiyaki, and tea ceremony and making okonomiyaki together at home. Of course, I was guiding them to classic tourist places.

Kenyan coffee, which is popular in our shop, was also appreciated and commented that it was very delicious. I hope that the friendly relationship between Kenya and Japan will continue to deepen in the future.
